Privacy Policy

What Papa knows stays with Papa.

Papa lives on your Mac. There’s no account, no sign-up and no analytics inside the app. This page lists everything he keeps, the few things that leave your Mac, and what this website collects.

The short version

Who we are

Papa is made by Jeet Karia, an independent developer. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean the maker of Papa. You can reach us any time at [email protected].

The Mac app is signed and notarized through the Apple developer account of Anubhav Gupta, so macOS may show his name as the developer. That’s only how the app is signed: he doesn’t receive any data from Papa or from this website.

1. What stays on your Mac

Papa saves his data in ~/Library/Application Support/Papa on your Mac. None of it is sent to us. It includes:

To see these files, open Papa’s dashboard and go to Settings → Show folder. Deleting the folder, or deleting Papa, removes them.

2. What Papa looks at on your Mac

Which site is open in Safari or Chrome

For your time-wasting site limits, Papa asks Safari or Chrome for the address of the tab in front. macOS asks your permission first. Papa only uses the site’s address (like youtube.com) to count time on the sites you listed. He never reads the page, its content, your history or your other tabs. This stays on your Mac. You can turn it off in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.

Battery and charger

Papa reads your battery level and whether the charger is in, to remind you about a low battery or a full one still charging. This stays on your Mac.

Whether you’re at your Mac

Papa checks how long since you last used your keyboard or mouse, so he doesn’t count time when you’re away. He doesn’t record what you type or where you click.

3. What leaves your Mac, and where it goes

Pro license (Dodo Payments)

When you activate Pro, Papa sends your license key and your Mac’s name (the one in System Settings → General → Sharing) to Dodo Payments, who sell Papa Pro. Dodo uses them to check the key and to count how many Macs it’s used on. Papa checks the key with Dodo again now and then. Papa also saves your Mac’s hardware ID with the license on your Mac, so a copied license doesn’t work on another Mac. That ID is never sent anywhere.

Sales (Stripe or Dodo Payments) Pro, optional

If you connect sales, you paste a read-only API key that you create in your Stripe or Dodo Payments account. Papa keeps it in your Mac’s Keychain and uses it to ask Stripe or Dodo for your recent payments and subscriptions, directly from your Mac. We never see the key or your sales. Papa keeps only the totals (today’s revenue, number of sales, refunds and MRR), not your customers’ details. Disconnecting deletes the key from the Keychain.

Exchange rates

To show sales in one currency, Papa downloads public exchange rates from Frankfurter about once a day. The request contains no information about you or your sales. Like any website, Frankfurter can see your IP address.

Nothing else

The app has no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking of any kind, and no account to sign in to.

4. Buying Papa Pro

Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, who act as the seller (the merchant of record). They collect your name, email, billing address and payment details to process the payment, handle tax and email you your license key. We never see your card details. Dodo shares your order details with us (such as your name, email and what you bought) so we can help with your license, refunds and support. See Dodo Payments’ privacy policy.

5. This website

Trying Papa on the page

The Papa on this page runs in your browser. What you type into his notch stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere. If your browser shares it, the page reads your battery level to show it in the drawn menu bar. That also stays in your browser.

The “people tried Papa” counter

The first time each day that you play with Papa on the page, the page tells our server. We store a one-way, salted hash of your IP address (never the address itself) and the date, to count different visitors over the last 7 days. These records are deleted after 8 days.

Analytics (PostHog)

We use PostHog to understand how people use this website: pages viewed, buttons clicked, and which parts of the demo were tried. It never includes what you type. PostHog stores a random ID in your browser to recognise repeat visits, and sees your IP address and browser details, which it uses to estimate your country. See PostHog’s privacy policy. Blocking cookies or using a tracker blocker stops it, and the site works the same.

Hosting

This website is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request information (like IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

6. Your choices and rights

7. Children

Papa isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.

8. Changes to this policy

If Papa starts handling data differently, for example by adding automatic update checks, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and note it in the changelog.
